Cortex Training & Development, an accredited NEBOSH Learning Partner and a SHENA Approved Training Provider based in Brunei Darussalam, marked a momentous day and a significant milestone on September 11, 2023. One of their NEBOSH learners, Amal Azimah Zahidah Ali Ajis, received the Award for the Best Candidate in the NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety for achieving the highest Distinction globally for the year 2022/2023. She is the first Bruneian ever to attain this prestigious accolade.
The award was presented to her by Andy Shenstone, NEBOSH Chief Executive Officer, and Dee Arp, NEBOSH Chief Operating Officer, during the NEBOSH Graduation and Awards Ceremony held at the University of Warwick in Coventry, UK. Typically an annual event, this gathering brought together 580 Diplomates and Masters holders from 33 nations, along with their families and friends, who came to celebrate their accomplishments.
Azrinna Kepli, IDipNEBOSH, GradIOSH, Managing Director and Lead Tutor of Cortex Training & Development, had the honour of receiving the award on behalf of Amal Azimah as a VIP guest. This outstanding achievement not only underscores Amal Azimah’s commitment and excellence as a learner but also highlights Cortex Training & Development’s dedication to developing leaders in the field of occupational health and safety as a training provider.
Furthermore, in recognition of her outstanding accomplishment, Amal Azimah has been granted an additional prestigious opportunity: a full scholarship to pursue the NEBOSH International Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals. This degree-level programme represents the highest level of training offered by NEBOSH and is considered a symbol of expertise and professionalism.
The scholarship is generously sponsored by Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, the Chief Executive Officer of The Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) and Chair of the Board of Directors of The Oil and Gas Holding Company (nogaholding). Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, who also served as the past President of Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC), holds the esteemed position of Middle East Ambassador for NEBOSH, further emphasising the significance of this scholarship. Notably, Amal Azimah is the first Bruneian ever to receive this scholarship, adding to her already outstanding achievements.
The NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, abbreviated as NEBOSH IGC, is globally recognised for its comprehensive coverage of health and safety topics. It equips professionals with the skills and competencies necessary to proficiently manage workplace health and safety. Often dubbed the ‘Gold’ standard in health and safety qualifications worldwide, employers actively seek professionals who hold this certificate. In Brunei Darussalam, the NEBOSH IGC meets the minimum qualification requirements for individuals to be registered with SHENA to act as workplace safety and health officers. Apart from being recognised by SHENA, the qualification is also accredited by the Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council. Amal Azimah’s notable achievement in this programme not only stands as a testament to her dedication as a learner but also underscores the conducive learning environment provided by Cortex Training & Development.
